Brand-new BMW M2 CS with 17 miles gets an Akrapovic exhaust

BMW’s swan song for the current M2 lineup–the M2 CS–amps up the already-raucous M2 Competition with more power, better handling and a trimmed down curb weight.
Producing 444 horsepower from an upgraded 3.0L twin turbo inline six found in the bigger M4 Competition, it produces 39 more ponies than the M2 Competition.
But how does all that power crammed into a small coupe and tuned as part of the whole package on the Nürburgring translate to sound when you roll into the throttle while exiting a turn or drop gears as you dive into the next one?
Let’s just say it’s not as exciting as you’d hope for a car hyped for its track-tuned performance.
So as the first order of business, we were tasked with replacing the factory M2 CS exhaust with Akrapovic’s titanium exhaust.
Aside from shedding over 38 lbs from the already-lightened Bimmer coupe, Akrapovic also advertises gains of roughly 20 horsepower and 22 lb-ft of torque from the combination of its Slip-On Line exhaust and Evolution Line mid pipes. These are welcome additions/subtractions to improve the M2 CS’s final specs.

This particular M2 CS had just over a dozen miles on the odometer, and was still sporting much of its factory transport protection when we picked it up in Westchester County using our Rail Ryder-equipped inTech trailer.

It also has three pedals for rowing through six speeds. A seven-speed DCT is also available.

The factory exhaust features a giant muffler for baffling the dual exhaust while electronic actuators operate the internal valves for squeezing out a few more dB’s and burbles.

The Akrapovic system ready to go in.

Akrapovic’s tips are shrouded in a matte carbon fiber. Inside the car, the optional Akrapovic Sound Kit piggybacks with the factory harness to allow for greater control over the operation of the actuated exhaust valves.

The electronic actuators and factory hardware is carried over to the Akrapovic system for an OEM-style operation and a flawless fit.

It’s a shame an exhaust this good looking will be mostly hidden.

With the BMW M2 CS Akrapovic exhaust installed, the car is ready to head to Touch of Glass Detail Studio in Bedford Hills, NY for a host of treatments, including additional carbon fiber bits, to get it ready for delivery to our client.
