The 2012 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder: Long Name, Low Production

Over a decade ago, the automotive world was abuzz about the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder. The successor to the Carrera GT, the car was still a few years off from hitting the showroom floor with its cutting-edge hybrid powertrain and performance figures.

As buyers lined up to get their spot to own one of the 918 models to be produced, Porsche gave them the opportunity to own not one, but two special cars.

As a swan song for the 997 platform, Porsche introduced the 2012 911 Turbo S Edition 918 Spyder.

Reserved for those purchasing a 918, the Turbo S would also be limited to 918 units and carry the matching production number to its supercar counterpart.

Available in both coupe and convertible, with a host of carbon fiber, leather, exclusive trim and a dose of Acid Green, the Edition 918 Spyder set itself apart in more ways than just its somewhat awkward nameplate.

Recently we had the opportunity to service one of these special Turbos–number 62 to be precise.

Kept in immaculate shape it featured a number of modern electronic add-ons performed by our friends at Vanguard Automotive Design, including radar/laser systems, a full custom audio system and front and rear cameras, all seamlessly integrated and unobtrusive.

This was definitely one of our favorite 997’s to roll through the shop so far, and we look forward to the opportunity to take care of it
